Why we chose Save the Children.

Some of the Dataquest team including Directors Daniel Jones, Peter Fowke and David Larkin proudly presenting the £5,000 cheque to Save the Children.
Choosing a charity to sponsor with so many worthwhile causes is very difficult. For me, as much as I would like to save the whales, help the homeless or the aged, the most worthy cause has to be tomorrow’s generation. Save the Children offers support to children in desperate need across the world; from disaster hit areas to longer term projects. 83p of every pound hits one of any number of targets head on. The rest is spent on raising more money.
Thankfully, most of us didn’t have as hard a start as the children this charity supports. I can’t imagine what it must be like being a child afflicted or in constant hunger. In the end, for me there was only one choice.
David Larkin, Director.
Save the Children History
At the beginning of the 20th century, two sisters had a vision to protect the rights of children. Save the Children has become worldwide crusade that rises from strength to strength. In 2009, it celebrates its 90th anniversary.
Save the Children believes in the equality and welfare of all children.
- In times of disaster, it provides basic services such as food, clean water, shelter and healthcare.
- Longer term, it brings hope and opportunity through education, agricultural development and community building.
How our money can help Save the Children
£5,000 can pay for the construction of a children’s recreation centre in Sudan; giving children affected by conflict a place to play, socialise, receive training and discuss issues that are important to them.
£4,000 will buy a Phase-One Emergency Start-up Health Kit which contains basic medical supplies for 30,000 people for 3 months.
